asaOn Friday 25th September, history was made. During the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), heads of state from 193 countries adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — 17 goals to end hunger and poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. Throughout the process to develop the SDGs, The Hunger Project has been a strong voice for gender-focused, community-led development approaches that put people at the center.
Hunger Project President and CEO Åsa Skogström Feldt was among a select group of civil society leaders to address the UN as part of the interactive dialogue on ending hunger and poverty. You can watch her call to action on the UN WEB TV (at 1:40).

This month, Åsa and Executive Vice President John Coonrod, published articles in The Huffington Post in a special series on the SDGs — Åsa on the need for inclusive development processes that begin at the local level, and John on the need to ask women what they want.

The Hunger Project is thrilled about the adoption of the SDGs, but we also know it will not be easy to achieve zero hunger by 2030.

Yet, humanity has achieved incredible feats, making the seemingly impossible possible. With hard work, will and commitment, we know we can achieve Goal 2 — ending hunger — by 2030. That’s what our new campaign “Impossible to Possible” is all about: the impossible—eradicating polio, landing a man on the moon—has been done before, so we can do it now.
