'One World One Song' is the first ‘We Sing, You Sing’ anthem for the sustainable ending of hunger! It is also the first song to be released backed by a cross-curricular schools project.

'One World One Song' was composed to encourage emotional engagement with the issues of ending hunger and to inspire many more people to take action (much as Band Aid's 'Feed The World' and USA For Africa’s 'We Are The World' have done in the past) but it isn’t a song released in response to a specific 'emergency' event like a famine, earthquake or flood.

Written in a unique partnership by legendary songwriter Tony Hatch, Tim Holder - Country Director of The Hunger Project UK and charity Patron Rod Natkiel, the message of the song calls for the sustainable end to hunger and poverty.

2 million children still die every year. 90% of these deaths are not because of Earthquake, Famine or Flood, but quite simply because over 870 million people currently wake up every morning and go to bed every night, having not received the bare minimum nourishment required to make their lives healthy, productive, dignified or sustainable.

All proceeds from this project will go to The Hunger Project’s work to empower communities to create sustainable futures. This song is not about us trying to feed people, it is about people coming together as 'One World'.. SINGING …'One Song' to create the opportunities and deliver the skills that will enable mothers and fathers to feed their own children. This song is about ending hunger - permanently.

We Sing

The recording of 'One World One Song' involves a multi-generational cast led by the legendary Dionne Warwick and X-Factor winning 'Pop Icon' Joe McElderry, and featuring London Community Gospel Choir, Southbank Sinfonia and the 60 strong World Hunger Day Youth Choir. But it isn’t simply a star studded 'single' for the music buying public to purchase and enjoy. (Although we very much hope that many around the world will do so!)
Dionne Warwick and Joe McElderry

Dionne Warwick

'This is a wonderful and uplifting anthem, written especially for The Hunger Project, much like 'We Are The World' and 'That’s What Friends Are For'. Music has very powerful ability to engage people and we hope you will enjoy listening to this song, but also hope that it will inspire you to join us in the fight to end hunger and poverty.'

Joe McElderry

'I loved this song the moment I heard it. It has a simple message, but is very strong and moving to listen to and perform. It’s very special to all of us and we really hope it will encourage many more people to take action and support The Hunger Project.'

You Sing

Singers wanted to sing One World One Song
The crucial difference with 'One World One Song' is that the song has been released with an additional backing track that allows everyone to sing it and sheet music if you really want to make it your own. Individuals, Choirs, Schools, Faith Groups, Rock Bands, YOU! Whoever would like to spread the song’s message is welcome to perform their own version in aid of the project. We want to hear you! The world needs to hear you! 'Loud and Proud and Strong.'

Lyrics

One world, free from poverty
One song, to bring equality
One world, one song
For all humanity

Verse 1
I want to see a world that is much brighter,
Where burdens are much lighter in our hearts;
A time when we are there for one another
And no-one stands alone, afraid, apart.

A single voice is weak
Just a whisper in the dark,
But millions joined together will be heard...

Let's be heard!

Chorus
One world, one song;
Sing loud and proud and be strong
Bring hunger to an end;
Stand side by side, and
We can turn the tide, we'll be
One world, one song.

Verse 2
We want a world where hunger is no longer,
Where children grow stronger every day;
The right to share in all the earth can give us
Is everyone's - and we will lead the way.

We have the power within us;
The strength to be the change;
Together we can shape our destiny.

Sing with me!

Chorus

Schools

'One World One Song' is the UK’s first charity single to be released in conjunction with a cross-curricular day/programme for schools.
The Hunger Project UK’s Ambassador for Education and also Head of Sixth Form at Woodbridge School, Nicki Carter says:

"As the Head of Sixth Form of a British school I am deeply inspired and delighted to have led the wonderful team responsible for the creation of this new and innovative approach to educating young people."

Commenting on the triple aspect musical-educational-fundraising strategy of ‘One World One Song’ co-writer and THP Country Director UK, Tim Holder, said:-

"We are delighted to have an opportunity to engage with young people in schools as they discover, possibly for the first time, about the lives of families who may be just like their own but whose future is stunted by the daily challenge of living in extreme hunger and poverty. By introducing the UK’s first ever cross-curricular educational programme created in tandem with a song, we aim to communicate why chronic, persistent hunger exists and educate our young people as to how they can step up within their own communities to create solutions to end this terrible situation. The future will be in the hands of the next generation – they have the power to end this plight once and for all."

Lessons relating to The Hunger Project’s cross-curricular educational programme currently include the following subject areas for children in Year 8, aged 12-13. We hope to develop other lesson modules for all ages in the coming months. it is also hoped that teachers will feel able to adapt what is available here for other age groups.
