Roberta Marquez is a Brazilian ballet dancer & Principal Dancer with The Royal Ballet.
Born in Brazil, Roberta trained at the Maria Olenewa State Dance School, then in 1994 joined the Municipal Theatre Ballet, Rio de Janeiro, becoming a Principal, 2002. Her repertory included Aurora, Odette/Odile, Nikiya, Swanilda, Juliet, Chloë, Sugar Plum Fairy, Floresta Amazônica, Giselle, Princess Stephanie, Katerina (Cranko’s Taming of the Shrew), Serenade, Theme and Variations and Suite in Blanc. She has also danced Nikiya as a guest artist with ABT. Her awards include Best Dancer of the Year, Rio de Janeiro Dance Awards, 2001, and Silver Medal and Best Couple, Moscow International Dance Competition, 2001. She joined The Royal Ballet as a Principal in 2004 and has since danced Manon, Cinderella, Lise, Sugar Plum Fairy, Dora Penny, Odette/Odile, Aurora, Swanilda, Juliet, Marie, Tatiana, Irina, Sylphide (La Sylphide), Pupil (The Lesson), Bride (Wedding Bouquet), Titania and in Afternoon of a Faun and Symphony in C, among others.
Roberta Marquez & World Hunger Day
Roberta performed at The Royal Ballet’s Gary Avis and Friends September 2011. This was the first regional World Hunger Day event and will took place at the largest theatre in East Anglia. It was also the first time that dancers from both The Royal Ballet and English National Ballet had taken to the stage at this theatre since the 1960’s.
