Angela Rippon, Dancing on IceAngela Rippon, a Patron of The Hunger Project UK will take to the ice in January on ITV’s Dancing on Ice.

As a lifelong fan of Torvill and Dean, Angela is relishing the opportunity to work with them and she is already ‘enjoying every minute’ of her Dancing on Ice experience as preparations continue apace.

Angela is a familiar figure in the UK and has been recognised by the Royal Television Society, which entered her into their Hall of Fame in 1996. In 2002 she was voted European Woman of Achievement. She was awarded an OBE in recognition of her services to Broadcasting, Charity and the Arts in the Queen’s Birthday Honours of 2004 and in 2010 she became a Patron of The Hunger Project UK.

Some of the most successful aid projects throughout the world are those that enable people to help themselves and improve their lives through their own efforts. Whether it’s digging wells to give a community clean water; providing toilets and community sanitation or helping people to grow their own food, these are the projects that really work.

I support the work of the Hunger Project because of the highly successful way in which they mobilise rural communities in the developing world to achieve their own food security and meet their own basic needs.

As a charity with a positive and practical approach, The Hunger Project deserve the support of us all for the valuable role they play in bringing about an end to extreme Hunger and Poverty and I hope my participation in ITV’s Dancing on Ice will also raise the profile of the organisations I support, including The Hunger Project.”  Angela Rippon

We wish Angela luck! as she takes to the ice for the first time on January 9, 2011 coinciding with the World Hunger Day Celebrations.
